Traffic zen

Mumbai traffic is non-stop. The roads are overcrowded with bullies forcing their way in front of you. Peers drive on the wrong side of the road to get ahead fast, only to create a jam, as ongoing traffic stops them in their tracks. Surprised, then miffed to be called out, they try to nonchalantly squeeze themselves into those of us driving patiently on the right side of the road. People of all ages step onto the road at unexpected moments, and especially when you might be accelerating into a higher gear. Unfazed at a car flying towards them, the saunter remains at its pace as the hand gesture for stop comes up and cars submit meekly. Bicycles swerve precariously, the riders looking tipsy and unsure of where they want to go, adding to the hustle around you. In short, when you are in Mumbai traffic, you are in chaos.

To live, not just survive but thrive in this chaos, that is life. That is zen practice.
